Facebook Hits Two Billion Users

Few people think of Facebook as a monopoly in the same way that AT&T was before being broken up by the courts. But despite attempts by companies such as Google to challenge its dominance, it remains, hands-down, the world’s largest social media network. This was recently underscored by the company’s announcement that two billion people are now regularly using its flagship service. As reported by Reuters, “the user base is bigger than the population of any single country, and of six of the seven continents. It represents more than a quarter of the world’s 7.5 billion people.” Facebook’s user population dwarfs that of similar services including Twitter with approximately 328 million and Snapchat with about 166 million daily users. —TV
