Tesla Delivers First Mass-Market Sedans

Tesla has delivered the first round of its mass-market sedans, aiming to become a large-scale producer of battery-powered vehicles. The much-watched company plans to more than quadruple annual production to over a half-million vehicles. “The whole point of this company was to make a really great, affordable electric car,” noted Tesla’s chief executive, Elon Musk, at the car’s unveiling in San Francisco. Industry analysts say that Model 3 introduction is a pivotal moment for the company in terms of its ability to become a major car company, competing with the likes of General Motors and Ford, the biggest US automakers. The new Model 3 sedans start at $35,000. About a half a million people have put down deposits on the new vehicles. —TV
