Twitter Sues Feds Over Speech, Feds Back Off

Homeland Security dropped its demand that Twitter reveal the identity of anonymous users posting under the handle @ALT_uscis, who were purportedly disgruntled current and former agents of Citizenship and Immigration Services. Following Trump administration orders clamping down on social media posts from a number of agencies, several rogue accounts have appeared, claiming to be written by agency employees. The summons had threatened legal action if the account holders were not revealed, but Twitter sued on First-Amendment grounds, prompting DHS to withdraw its summons. —ML
