Volvo: No More Gasoline-Powered Cars After 2019

Volvo is leading the charge towards environmentally friendly transportation in the auto industry. The Swedish automaker has announced that it will no longer design cars with conventional internal combustion engines after the year 2019. Any new vehicles that the company launches thereafter will be either electric or hybrid. The surprise announcement makes Volvo the first major automaker to undertake such a move. Company sources said that the transition will begin with three new fully electric cars available from 2019 through 2021. Volvo also plans to sell one million electric or hybrid cars by the year 2025 and to lower its carbon footprint. Analysts expect other automakers to make similar moves over the next few years. —TV
