New Wi-Fi Vulnerability Threatens IOT Integrity

A new vulnerability in Wi-Fi security is causing deep concerns throughout the tech industry. Dubbed “KRACK,” the vulnerability affects the WPA security protocol itself, making virtually any Wi-Fi network potentially open to hacking including those part of the still emerging Internet of Things (IOT). IOT represents of vision of “technology everywhere” in which an array of smart devices large and small is envisioned to permeate every nook and cranny of our daily lives. How bad is the security threat? According to Kevin Fu, a computer scientist at the University of Michigan who focuses on medical device security: “For the general sphere of IoT devices, like security cameras, we’re not just underwater, we’re under quicksand under water.” —TV
